Dawn Keenan

I started square dancing in 2009 with Town and Country Club at Bremer Waters over 50’s resort at Moores Pocket where I live.  When I was considered good enough I also went to Ipswich (same Club) but more advanced dancing where my husband, Les started dancing as well.  We both graduated to mainstream in July 2009 from Basic with Noel McKenzie.

I commenced calling early in 2010 and entered Queensland Amateur Callers’ Competition in 2010, 2011 and 2012.  I was calling twice a week at Town and Country.

Whilst at Town and Country Noel trained us both in dancing Plus and I then proceeded to call some singing calls once a week in Plus (now dancing 3 times a week).

At the same time I was training under Kay Walker for more advanced Plus and all position mainstream twice a fortnight  and Sunday afternoons.  During this time we were also attending Rambling 8’s and David Pearce was kind enough to allow me to call (mainly at party nights).   In more recent times I have been invited by both Kay and David to call on a regular basis at Rambling 8’s and Uniting Squares.  Kay has been my mentor for hoedowns during 2014 for which I am very grateful.

In the latter part of 2014 Kay selected Les and I with 7 others to learn A1 which is a continuing process at the present time.  Mid year 2014 I commenced calling at Bremer Waters for practice once a fortnight.

As well as the above, I have called at Queensland State Conventions in 2012 and 2013, several  QCA functions, Caller’s ACF breakfast at National Convention Canberra 2014, Shindig on the Mountain, Gumdale Club, Redland Bay Club and in fact anywhere I have been invited to call during the five years I have been calling.
